Why should I have a career the creative arts?
The creative arts are hugely diverse – from fashion, to gaming, to music, to dance, there’s so much going on. It’s worth billions to the UK economy and it’s always going to be interesting. If you’re looking for a way to express yourself, then we can find outlet for your creativity.
What options are there for creative arts courses at secondary schools and colleges?
There are many options for the Creative Arts sector in education:
- GCSE
- A-Levels
- T-Levels
Should I do a creative arts course at Uni? Where?!
There’s a huge variety of creative arts courses at universities and conservatoires.
Firstly, you might consider doing a foundation year, to consolidate your skills. Some high ranking universities will only accept you completing a foundation year.
Undergraduate degree courses are usually three years, however you might consider doing a four year courses which includes a year in industry or a year abroad.
Conservatoires are specialist higher education institutions, prestigious and highly regarded in the industry. They are very competitive and auditions are required to be offered a place. There are nine conservatoires within the UK:
- Royal Birmingham Conservatoire
- Bristol Old Vic Theatre School
- Leeds Conservatoire
- Royal Academy of Music
- Royal College of Music
- Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
- Royal Northern College of Music
- Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama
- Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance
I want to further my skills in the creative arts – are there adult courses I can take?
Applied General qualifications are vocational courses with a high level of practicality, equivalent to three A Levels. There’s lots of subject choice and they are a great way to explore your creativity.

What about traineeships and apprenticeships in the creative arts?
Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships are a great way to gain practical experience whilst also studying an industry recognised qualification and earning a wage. There are lots in the creative arts, from Level 2 to Level 7 with different employers.
